Why do we choose the friends we do? Dominic knows. He explains just how special his pal Victor really is. After all, Victor tells heart-booming ghost stories, claps the loudest at Dominic’s baseball games, and performs a fabulous floating frog stroke. Two young boys experience a spirited, carefree friendship that transcends one boy’s disability.

Little “Pookie” Gonzales's vivid imagination led her to write her first novel in the fifth grade. She went on to write school plays, Girl Scout skits, and poetry. When she became a teacher, she created funny soap operas, religious plays, and translated Shakespeare into easier words for her students to enjoy and perform. Pookie, now known as Diane Gonzales Bertrand, currently writes stories for families to read together. Her picture books include: Caldo, Caldo, Caldo, The Last Doll, Family/Familia, and Uncle Chente's Picnic. These last two books won best bilingual book awards from the National Latino Literary Hall of Fame. Diane is Writer-in-Residence at St. Mary's University. She lives in San Antonio, Texas.
